IP rights and how important it is

IP or intellectual property, is a mark of intangible creations that you or a company has made. They can be in a form of trademarks, patents, copyrights and trade secrets. IP is very important in creative industries since otherwise you will be able to monetize your creations and wont be able to do anything by law. Lets take NFT's (Non-Fungible Tokens) this technology failed catostrophically due to the fact that you were not protected by any IP law.  But what if you are making a game that you want to have open source code? Then monetize your assets but not the code, plus nobody cancelled donations to your game. Copyright is important mainly due to the fact that you can just simply loose money if you someone just takes what you created, modified it by a bit and then also started monetizing it. And people will most properly go to the person who modified your creation since there can be things that attracts their attention a bit more. Lets take interesting case that happened in Sw...

Networking in creative industries

Networking in creative industries typically means ways of communications between companies or workers. Communication and proper networking between departments is crucial since if you dont communicate and have no idea what others are doing, then what are you supposed to do? Simple e-mailing system  within a company can reduce so much questions and headaches for workers. Simply passing on documents to one-another saves time and decreases amount of questions asked, since the questions are answered within the documents. Again, if a proper communcative system is established, people will their responses quicker. Before sticking to one platform for potential employers, study where the company is most active. E.g Twitter,Facebook,LinkedIn etc. If you notice that on one platform, company updates come out faster than another (We  will use LinkedIn as an example) then use LinkedIn. Usually that gives you a lower response time from the company you are interested in. Promoting yourse...

Freelancing

A free lancer is a hunter for contracts. Companies set out specific tasks with rewards and only you decide which task to take (The reward for completing the task will vary and may subject to change if you contact the company). In my opinion, the main skill that a free lancer should have, is not to over do your work. As most of the times, you do not have agreement with the contractor that if you do more then you will be paid more...That will happen utterly rarely but the contractor will outright deny increase of payment since you initally did not agree to anything. Promoting yourself as a free lancer is almost like a lotery. One strategy is being completing tasks for a limited amount of contractors who give out contracts on a constant basis. That way, when they see that you specifically, they will give the priority to you in the future instead of someone else...Who knows, maybe in future they might even offer you a job position. To be seen as a professional by clients, you should b...

Professionalism in creative industries

Generally, a person who is considered a professional, is a person who is able to deliver prestine product in a limited amount of time and resources. That is why in creative industries, you have to be a professional at what you do since people are hungry for interactive art. And if you dont deliver in time and with sophisticated quality, you will not manage to be in the industry for long.  But wont that mean that the personel of a company constantly change? To some extent yes. For example the unfortuante video game CyberPunk 2077, it has been in development since around early 2013 but when it released, it failed massively. Lots of accusations, refunds and problems with investors arised. That happened due to constant change in literally everything, from level designers to the management to the funding. So to prevent such serious problems and headaches, you need to make sure that the personel and the documentation is ready before starting any type of work. In IT, there are strict...

Online Presence

Unfortunately, a lot of people can be quite shy on trying to show themselves to the world and not being able to getcertain contacts in their industry. Before establishing an online presence, at least in my opinion, you should gather at least some material to show what you are capable of. Be it : level design, general development documents or programming scripts. You would to show that the industry you are adressing, you A : Have the knowledge to and understanding of the industry. And B : You have the will and skill to show what you can provide to the industry and its user space. Even though the general rule of actually makin yourself known is through YouTube and LinkedIn, but that wont really always help. Since not everyone who is in your sphere of interest will see your video and people can easily just miss your LinkedIn profile. So lets go a step further and adress Discord servers. In my opinion, they are underrated since Discord is not really acknowledge as a platform where the...
